Follow along as we continue sharing stories that feature our summer HoneyRock Pastors over the next few weeks! As HoneyRock continues to grow in year-round programming, we hope to partner with pastors who are willing to volunteer in both the summer and the school year months.

"HoneyRock pastors volunteer their time to serve all members of the HoneyRock community. They offer pastoral support for our staff members and campers alike. Throughout the summer, pastors guide our summer community through vocational training and necessary discipleship, equipping those to serve at HoneyRock & the greater mission of the church."
Ashley Paige Kiley, Camp Programs Director

How did you get connected with HoneyRock?
Joyce: My family moved to Wheaton three summers ago and I first heard about HoneyRock through my kids' friends who raved about it. During the early days of Covid, we decided to come to HoneyRock as a family and stay in a cabin for a few days as a Covid-safe vacation. Last summer, my two older daughters attended Res Camp and had the best time! They not only loved the adventure of learning how to water-ski, canoe, and mountain bike, but they also grew so much in their faith! My daughter's first comment when we picked her up was: when can I come back?
J: As the counselors and staff are getting trained and pouring into their campers, they need someone to pour into them. My prayer was that God encouraged, challenged, and nourished them through the Sunday message and morning devotions, so that they would feel spiritually energized for the work they are doing at HoneyRock. Their schedule is intense and slowing down to listen to God's word is what will sustain them. I also like how camp pastors rotate every two weeks, so the staff are exposed to different messages and pastors who they may connect to in different ways.
The staff's schedule, "is intense and slowing down to listen to God's word is what will sustain them."
J: I had the privilege of arriving on Commission Sunday, the day before the first campers arrived for the start of camp. The Commissioning Service included prayer walking the entire campus and laying hands on all the buildings and equipment. The high point was praying for and anointing every single staff member. We fasted as a community that day and asked the Lord to consecrate us and the whole camp! What a powerful experience to begin my time at HoneyRock.
In addition to speaking on Sunday morning and leading a couple morning devotions, I enjoyed dining with the staff and getting to know people from all over the world, including Bolivia, Ukraine, Costa Rica, and Mexico. My family came up with me and we enjoyed slowing down in such a beautiful setting and making new friends with other volunteer families and their kids.
J: My favorite part of pastoring at HoneyRock was having one-on-one conversations and praying with the staff. I loved learning more about what brought them to HoneyRock, their hopes and dreams about the future, and even some of their current struggles.
The staff honestly encouraged me more than I think I encouraged them by how they are investing their time, talent and treasure in making HoneyRock an amazing experience for the campers. Their devotion to Jesus and faithful service give me hope in the next generation.
"I wanted to serve in a place that has had such a legacy of transforming generations of campers and staff for Christ, including my own kids! I love that HoneyRock not only exposes kids to various outdoor activities, but is also focused on training the next generation in a holistic way through leadership and discipleship."
We are so grateful for Joyce's time and her partnership in ministry with us. Joyce and Tim, thank you for making time to be with us! We loved having you and your family here for the week.
Come back again!
